Easter excitement in New Orleans
Nobody parties like New Orleans, home to the most vibrant nightlife – and daylife – around. The city’s calendar is full of festivals and events and, as you’d expect, Easter is no different.
On March 24th, the fun begins with the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) egg hunt and family festival, a huge event with egg hunts, a petting zoo, and a special appearance from the Easter Bunny. It’s a great way to spend the morning – usually in beautiful weather – and the museum itself is a great way to unwind after a hectic hunt.
Of course, it wouldn’t be New Orleans without a parade and Easter Sunday has several throughout the day. It starts in the historic French Quarter with mule-drawn carriages and convertibles and continues with the Gay Easter Parade later in the day.
And be sure to bring a basket – you’ll want to catch the Easter-themed treats thrown from the passing floats.
Tradition and ceremony in Seville
“Semana Santa” or “Holy Week” takes place in Seville between 25th March and 1st April – and it’s a real sight to behold.
During Holy Week, the streets of Seville come alive and crowds gather for Easter celebrations on a huge scale. The city’s streets, specially decorated for the event, are filled by processions of religious devotees in traditional dress – and plenty of spectators.
While you’re there, you’ll also be able to see Seville’s celebrated works of art, sculpture, and historic landmarks, from churches and sacred sites to museums and surprisingly modern architecture.
